Our culture seems to thrive on being busy. We all have places to go and important things to accomplish, but when is the last time we stopped for a brief moment to improve our fellow human and make a difference?
I believe that all of us would like to be a positive force in this world and make the world a better place. The thought is nice, but in reality how many of us can honestly say that we are doing everything within our skills and talents to make the world a better place? Before we beat ourselves up with guilt, let me suggest a simple way to make your difference in the world.
The next time you interact with your co-worker, the person at the restaurant or in the busy retail store, ask yourself the following…’how can I leave this person better than I found them?’. We sometimes underestimate the power of our words and actions and the resulting impact they can have on the people we come in contact with. We don’t always know what the person we interact with may be going through and how a little gesture or kind word can have an impact on their day. That person could be experiencing loss of a loved one, news of disease, job loss, miscarriage, etc. Our words can be used for good!
In our hurried way of living, we tend to think of ourselves and that is natural…BUT, if you make it your goal the next time you interact with another human to take 10 seconds to compliment them on their attitude, their hard work, or even their smile you never know the effect it could have. You may make their day. AND…it just might make your day a little brighter as well!
Leave them better than you found them!
